Surrounded Islands, Christo and Jeanne-Claude

Christo and Jeanne-Claude
Surrounded Islands, Biscayne Bay, Greater Miami, Florida, 1980-83

“‘Surrounded Islands’ is totally useless, totally irrational: It’s about physical pleasure and also the angst I feel as an artist, the fight to make something that pleases me first.”- Christo
The installation is wrapping seven-mile-long string of 11 Miami’s islands in pink fabric fence, it took the artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude three years (1980-1983) from planning, engineering until it’s completed.
